New Battery, Good Times

17th April 2010

I took my MacBook Pro to the Apple Store in Aberdeen today. I
was fed up with the poor performance of the battery after only having it for 5 months.

They ran a simple diagnostic on the battery from an iPod (as an external drive), and produced a beautifully coloured graph which I’ve recreated for you all to see. Read More

Why I’m not iMad for the iPad

3rd April 2010

Update 26/12/11: I finally gave in and bought an iPad 2. The decision was made much easier by a very generous Christmas present. Within 10 minutes of using the iPad I realised what all the fuss was about because it’s simply beautiful.

Yeah, I like Apple products. I’ve got a MacBook Pro and an iPhone but I can safely say that I’m in no way inclined to go iPad Mad. This morning should see a plethora of un-boxing video’s choking up YouTube as our friends in the States get their hands on the iPad for the first time. What a bore.

I’m not saying that the iPads not a game-changer, it is. I just can’t see how near pron vids with geek orgasms over a shiny new tablet are going to make me change my mind. I’m not buying one.

Even if I do feel instantly engaged when I get my first iPad experience (which I will go out of my way to get), there’s no way in hell I’m splashing out at least $499. Why? Simply this: what on earth would I use it for that I can’t already do on my Laptop or phone? Nothing. Can I sync my iPods and iPhone with it? No. Can I be more productive on my MacBook? Yes. Will it fill a void in my life and make me feel special? Only if I’m a self-indugent narcissist, which I would hope I’m not.

On the other hand it does look quite nice. If I had the spare cash would I buy one? Probably. I’d say I fall in the category: iPad = luxury item.

It’s a no brainer for me. No thanks. What about you?
