IE9 Public Beta
Microsoft release their beta of IE9 at www.beautyoftheweb.com (Yep, that’s the real URL).
Bing & Yahoo close the deal
This week Microsoft and Yahoo’s announced that they received “unrestricted” clearance from the U.S. Department of Justice and the European Commission to proceed with their proposed search deal.
This joins the second and third most popular search engines on the web and will have dramatic effects on the search market. The announcement sets the end of the year as a target for the transition.
Steve Balmer said,
“Although we are just at the beginning of this process, we have reached an exciting milestone. I believe that together, Microsoft andYahoo! will promote more choice, better value and greater innovation to our customers as well as to advertisers and publishers.”
Good luck Steve, you’re going to need as Google currently has more than 65% market share.
Microsoft announce IE9
Microsoft announced IE9 today. Oh look – support for border radius. Yay! Also mentioned are a load more css3 selectors. I’m hoping next time this comes up, text shadow and png transparency are mentioned too.
Update 16.03.10 – You can now take IE9 for a test drive
Xmarks
If your anything like me you’ll have bookmarked your way through the internet for years, changing browsers, computers and phones along the way. So how are you supposed to keep on top of all those bookmarks you’ve made? In my case I simply didn’t. In fact I stopped using bookmarks altogether because of the mess they got in.
…until I was recommended Xmarks. This plugin/program can run on PC/Mac across almost all of the major browsers. It works by syncing your bookmarks to a common server. It’s Awesome. Now my bookmarks all stay in sync from the office to my home, even on my iPhone. After installing, I spent 10 minutes re-organising, and now my life is bookmark bliss.
Currently Xmarks is compatible with Chrome or Firefox on a Mac and PC, Internet Explorer on a PC, and Safari on a Mac. You can use iTunes to sync an Iphone to IE or Safari to keep it in the loop.
